About Mr. Midwinter
Being able to work at Barkhamsted School has been amazing! As a resident of Barkhamsted, as well as a parent of children who have gone through our school, I am so excited to be a part of this amazing community. I became a part of this school in 1993 and have been teaching at the 5th and 6th grade levels.
I live in Barkhamsted with my wife Linda. We are the parents of 5 daughters, 3 of whom are married. Kayli and Taryn both live nearby in CT and the rest are out of state. Our oldest daughter, Aly and son-in-law Dan, have two boys, Jackson and Judah, 8 and 5, and Emmi who is 1. Our daughter, Lisa and her husband Andrew have Noah who is 2, and our daughter, Hannah a andnd her husband Roger, hav a daughter Hattie who will be one in November!
Our spare time is spent doing as much camping and kayaking as possible. Each summer, our whole family goes camping for a week together. We now require 3 sites....two tents on each site!! We love the outdoors and spend lots of time hiking, gardening, kayaking, and swimming.
One of my greatest passions has been working with teachers in the Dominican Republic each summer. My daughter Kayli and I travel down there for a week each summer and train teachers who have not had the benefit of teacher training. Teachers work in a poverty-stricken area for children who are abused and neglected, so being able to help them help children is such a privilege. This past summer we were not able to get down there due to the current circumstances, but we were able to do a Zoom training. While Covid may have shut down the world, it also created many opportunities for people to reach out to others in the meantime!
I really enjoy teaching and want so much for my students to enjoy our class as well!
I am very excited to share our classroom with the "Class of 2021"!
